I. Team Introduction

The Department of Medical Oncology at Zhongshan Hospital, affiliated with Fudan University, is distinguished by its rigorous academic tradition and youthful vigor, characterized by creativity and a spirit of exploration. We specialize in the diagnosis and medical treatment of malignant solid tumors, utilizing a trinity of cutting-edge therapies: chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and immunotherapy. These are complemented by localized treatments such as high-intensity focused ultrasound and intraperitoneal hyperthermia. Guided by both domestic and international cancer treatment guidelines, as well as the latest research findings, we systematically deliver standardized treatment plans supported by the most robust clinical evidence for each patient. Renowned for our philosophy of meticulous, personalized care, our department currently leads the Shanghai Cancer Chemotherapy Quality Control Center.

One of our department's strengths is the establishment of multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment teams for gastrointestinal, biliary and pancreatic, breast, and abdominal soft tissue tumors, in collaboration with related departments. We are committed to creating a multidisciplinary, evidence-based treatment model (MDT) for cancer. In line with the latest advancements in diagnostics and treatment, we have also spearheaded the formation of two specialized teams: "Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment of Adverse Reactions to Immunotherapy" and "Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment of Tumor Nutrition". Additionally, we have established the "Zhongshan Hospital Medical Consortium Oncology Specialty Alliance" to achieve comprehensive, cycle-spanning cancer management and to support the integrated treatment of cancer.

II. Team History

- In 2002, the Chemotherapy Department was established at the branch of Zhongshan Hospital, affiliated with Fudan University.

- In 2006, it was renamed the Department of Medical Oncology at Zhongshan Hospital, affiliated with Fudan University.

- In January 2016, the entire department relocated from the Yan'an West Road branch to the Fenglin Road headquarters.

IV. Diagnostic and Treatment Features

Our department holds a leading position in China in the field of digestive tract tumors such as esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and biliary pancreatic tumors, as well as soft tissue tumors. Utilizing advanced gene sequencing and immune microenvironment detection tools from both international and domestic sources, combined with the advantages of being a large, comprehensive hospital, we also have distinctive capabilities in the diagnosis and treatment of refractory and rare tumors, which has had a significant social impact. Precision therapy and immunotherapy are the two main specialties of our department. In addition to conventional targeted drugs and immunotherapy drugs, our department has numerous opportunities for innovation and exploration in new targeted drugs and clinical research programs in cell therapy, including CAR-T.

V. New Technologies

The Department of Medical Oncology is equipped with a deep heat therapy device, an abdominal heat perfusion therapy device, and a high-energy focused ultrasound therapy device, which serve to enhance the sensitivity of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. The department also possesses a blood cell sorter and has mature technology for tumor cell therapy, with several CAR-T related clinical studies currently underway.
