Reproductive Medicine Center received the Certificate of Approval for Assisted Reproductive Technology from Shanghai Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning in March, 2016, and officially began to treat patients on April 18th, 2016 on the fourth floor of Building No. 15 in the East Quarter. It occupies a total area of 3,400 square meters, including “the heart of the Center”—the Embryo Laboratory which has high-standard embryo culture systems and advanced equipment.

The center also boasts a highly-skilled professional team, including physicians, nurses and laboratory technicians who have practiced reproduction assistance in the clinical setting for nearly 20 years.

The center routinely performs in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), embryo vitrification and cryopreservation, embryo and blastocyst culture and cryopreservation, assisted hatching, in vitro maturation(IVM), artificial insemination with husband’s sperm (AIH), percutaneous testicular/epididymal sperm aspiration and other assisted reproductive technologies as well as hysteroscopy operations related to sterility/infertility.

Based on years’ experiences, the center has established a wholesome embryo culture system and embryo freezing and thawing system. Currently, the average fertilization rate is over 75% in IVF and over 84% in ICSI, the top quality embryo rate is over 50%, and the thawing rate of frozen embryos is over 98%. All of these help the clinical pregnancy rate reach over 50%.

The center also continues to explore new technologies and is now carrying out the second phase of the research of embryo freezing and stimulating endometria for embryo transplantation (SEET), with a success rate of over 60%.

Apart from adopting advanced theories and technologies from the international arena, the center also utilizes the advantageous resources of Zhongshan Hospital including endocrinology, urology, hematology, laboratory and other fundamental and clinical research resources. Relying on those resources, the center conducts intensive studies on various reproductive disorders and reproductive technologies, and provides solid theoretical foundation and innovative technologies for clinical treatment. The center aims to develop a  Reproductive Medicine Center reflecting the characteristics of Zhongshan Hospital.

Currently, the center also provides specialized outpatient services for different types of sterility/infertility, reproductive endocrine disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, ovulation failure, premature ovarian failure, menstrual disorders and habitual abortion. The center has also set up reproductive outpatient services for male patients and perform standardized diagnosis and treatment for male infertility caused by hypogonadism, sexual dysfunction, varicocele, dysimmunity and other factors, as well as oligoasthenospermia and obstructive/non-obstructive azoospermatism.
