The Department of Acute Care Surgery of Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University is dedicated to the rescue and treatment of acute abdominal diseases, serious surgical diseases and severe abdominal trauma. In response to surgical emergencies such as severe abdominal infections, abdominal tumor emergencies, severe acute pancreatitis, acute gastrointestinal bleeding, serious post-surgical complications, and multiple injuries, we have set up the Emergency Surgery Rapid Response Team to provide timely and effective surgical rescue. By integrating the resources of all advantageous disciplines in the hospital and building a multidisciplinary collaborative group of emergency and critical care surgery, we have established an integrated, full-process diagnosis and treatment model, which greatly improves the success rate of rescue treatment.

Emergency and critical care surgeons must be compound talents with knowledge of emergency general surgery, trauma surgery and surgical critical care medicine. We are working hard to build a training base for emergency and critical care surgical professionals and to build a sustainable talent echelon. We are also training emergency and critical care surgical personnel for medical institutions at all levels throughout the country.

We are actively exploring the transition from the traditional emergency general surgery to the acute care surgery model, with a view to contributing to the construction and development of China's acute care surgery, playing a model and leading role.
